     I'm sure you have questions about plastic, like what is plastic? Where does it come from? What can be made of plastic?

     Let's first talk about what plastic is. Plastic is a compound of different chemicals that are either synthetic or organic that can be shaped and molded into different forms. Plastic can be many different objects we use everyday. Many of us do not know how these are made or even think about the effects of plastic in our daily lives. So, where does plastic really come from? Plastic is derived from fossils fuels, crude oil and natural gas. Using a mixture of these resources, carbon and other chemicals there can be many different types of plastic.


     An example of a plastic is PVC, like you would find in the plumbing section of your local hardware store. Mostly the pipes and fittings you would use in your home. Another example is nylon, you can find it in many forms, usually as a washer that would come with a piece of furniture you assemble. Nylon can also be the handle of a paintbrush or toothbrush.
